A Mindful Guide for Family Mental Health

Speaker: Olivia Wang

The workshop, A Mindful Guide for Family Mental Health, illustrates the prevalence of family mental health issues in the US and other countries. It guides us to learn how we can recognize issues at children’s early ages and identify relationship issues that could contribute to mental health stress factors. We will learn how issues in the larger communities can potentially mitigate or aggravate mental health problems.

Teenager's Thinking, Emotional Development, and Parent-Child Relationships

Speaker: Yanqing

Drawing on findings from brain science, this talk explains how teenagers' thinking and emotions develop, and how parents can prepare for adolescence, build a supportive home environment and communication style, and grow together with their children.

Theories of Psychological Development and Real-life Case Discussion

Speaker: Dylan Xing

Dr. Dylan Xing holds a Psy.D. in Professional Psychology from The George Washington University and an M.A. from Johns Hopkins University. He completed his predoctoral internship at Duke University's Counseling and Psychological Services and has provided psychotherapy in community clinics, university counseling centers, and correctional settings. His interests include group therapy, social systems, and the experiences of international students. He speaks English and Mandarin.

Self-Exploration: True Self and False Self

Speaker: Dylan Xing

This talk introduces the idea of the inner child and how a sense of self develops. Drawing on psychodynamic theory, Dr. Xing explains the difference between the true self and the false self, and how noticing both can support psychological wellbeing.

Mind Matters: A Journey to Mental Wellbeing

Speaker: Ying Yu

Based on her personal experience and growth history, Ying Yu will share her growth in the two years she studied psychological counseling at Northwest University. Regarding personal, family, adolescent growth and other aspects, she uses her own story to start a journey of exploration about mental health with everyone.
